best of: curvy girl closet staples

i thought it would be fun to share a round up of some of my most sold/most liked/most asked about items in 2018! most of these are staples in my wardrobe and items i get DM’d about over and over and over again. so without further adieu…

best curvy girl shapewear:
i’m working on a really fun YouTube vid all about this, but for now i wanted to link my very favorite shapewear! i wear this one {plus size version here} under body-con dresses or super form-fitting outfits. i do not wear it every day! i’ve had some people wonder if wearing Spanx is body positive and i say HELL YEAH. you do what makes you feel your best and most confident, girl! i see shapewear as a highlighter for curves! i particularly like the one linked above because the chest is open so it doesn’t squish my boobs and there’s no panty-line.

best curvy girl white tee:
this white tee is my go-to! i buy a new one every year or so! it’s under $20 so it won’t break the bank for you either. i always have at least two fresh white tees on hand at all times. i wear it with jeans, under cardigans, over bathing suits, you name it! plus, it’s size inclusive {xxs-3x}. in my opinion, it’s THE perfect fit: fitted, but a tad bit loose. i wouldn’t consider this a bf fit, just gives you some room to breathe while still being fitted. 100% cotton, v neck, little pocket… it’s so cute! i always buy the size large.

best curvy girl jeans
i get SO many DMs and emails asking about jean recommendations for curvy gals and this brand is my fave! it was the first ever high end denim brand to be truly size inclusive {that i know of!}, and i LOVE how these jeans fit. plus, on their website you can view how they look on different models depending on the size and i love that. i probably have at least 10 pairs in various styles: skinny, straight, distressed, dark wash, light wash, etc. you can buy them from their website or here. they are on the more pricey side, BUT they go on sale fairly regularly and you can find them discounted here, too. i really love their super high-waisted fit! great fit, super soft, last forever… can i get a praise hands?!!

ps: i am currently working on my curvy girl denim guide of my favorite tried and true brands! stay tuned!

best curvy girl bodysuits
okay, to be real i don’t have one favorite brand of bodysuits that sticks out in my mind. i buy them all different places because i just love love love bodysuits and think the combo of a bodysuit with high-waisted denim is SO flattering on curvy girls. it accentuates an hourglass shape and i always refer to it as the curvy girl uniform. i like to find my bodysuits here and here. linking a few of my faves below!

best curvy girl denim shorts
every single time i wear denim shorts my inbox is FLOODED with requests on where i buy them! i know firsthand how hard it can be to find a flattering pair as a curvy girl and that’s why i’m so happy to share my finds with you. i’m usually wearing them on tropical trips over bathing suits. here’s my little hack: ALWAYS size up in denim shorts if you’re a curvy girl. if you’re like me, denim shorts don’t always have thick thighs and a soft tummy in mind. i need that little bit of extra material to feel comfortable sitting, walking around, etc. plus, they look a little more flattering when they aren’t squeezing your beautiful love handles. agreed?! i always buy my denim shorts from this brand. the styles i wear are older, but every summer i get 1-2 new pairs {in a size 32}. last summer, i bought these mom shorts {size 32} and love them too! they are under $50, but definitely size up.

just noticed that my white shorts ARE in stock in a few sizes!

best curvy girl dresses
it is no surprise that i love this dress brand! it’s feminine, classy, and size-inclusive. it launched last spring and since then has become a favorite of mine. i wear these dresses to church, on vacation, out with girlfriends, you name it! there’s a dress for everyone in this collection and i couldn’t recommend it enough to all my curvy gals! for sizing reference, i wear a 14 in these dresses! most of them have buttons so in order for it not to pull on my larger chest i need to size up. you can also purchase them here!

best curvy girl bras/lingerie
this has got to be my #1 most asked question lately! after denouncing Victoria’s Secret in this post, it’s become my mission to share with you size-inclusive bra/underwear/lingerie brands that help you feel your most sexy while actually supporting women of all shapes and sizes. i have a list of probably 30 brands saved on a Highlight Story on IG, but i wanted to share with you my personal faves: Aerie, ThirdLove, Natori, and Addition Elle. i just ordered a fun little something from Savage x Fenty for Valentine’s Day too! there are SO many amazing lingerie brands out there for curvy gals, and i highly recommend supporting brands who support YOU.

best curvy girl swimsuits
it’s no secret i wear a lot of swimsuits, which means i’ve tried SO many brands over the years. my go-to brands are Aerie and ASOS! i love that both brands are size-inclusive. ASOS has a huge selection of patterns and colors, and new styles are constantly being uploaded daily. i can always count on finding something from both brands that make me feel confident and cute, which is really important to me when rocking a swimsuit!

best curvy girl workout looks
if you’re looking for really great workout leggings, then this brand is it! i love that the price point is typically HALF of what you’d pay at Lululemon and the quality is just as good. i started wearing a lot more of this brand this year, and i love their sports bras too! plus, they offer sizes xxs-xxl!

bonus – my FAVORITE boss babe look: pink power suit
okay, this one isn’t available anymore but MY favorite purchase clothing-wise last year was my pink pinstriped Ganni suit! it was a splurge, but something i’ll have for years and years. i seriously feel like such a boss lady in this thing! PINK! POWERFUL! UNSTOPPABLE! okay… you get it. never EVER underestimate the confidence to be found in a good power suit {just purchased this one}.

thanks for sharing all the great tips! I have absolutely loved your Insta posts and encouragement, totally relatable, until recently, was a bit disappointed in the designer Christmas haul. It just seems a bit excessive, overly done, and frankly not how most of us live. Sure we love a good designer item every now and then but I don’t think the majority of your readers could have even bought that entire haul themselves at xmas. how do your faith connect with things like designer items/hauls?

Hey! Love your blog. Question, I’m a plus size girl as well but I feel like every time I wear high wasitds jeans I get the pooch area from the bottom on my
Stomach. Any tips on his to hide that if I want to tuck something in?

Thanks for all the helpful tips! What kind of bra do you recommend wearing with spaghetti strap tank tops like the one you’re wearing in one of your photos here? I love how casual and effortless it looks but the strapless bras I’ve tried are not the most comfortable for extended wear.

Love all the recommendations, especially the lingerie as they are brands I haven’t tried.. In jeans I like Torrid which has so many styles ( skinny, straight, boyfriend, bombshell, super skinny, jeggings, etc,) Recently bought a pair of high waisted, straight leg jeans: Point Sur by J. Crew. (spendy but they do have sales).. Haven’t worn high waisted in *years*, but I love how they make me look little in the middle so definitely recommend them. Lots of J Crew jeans are size inclusive up to 37.

Thank you so much for your recommendation for Aerie.com for undies and swimwear! I’ve been looking for a replacement for Victoria’s Secret since their bad attitude toward real women came out and I’m so inspired by the models on the Aerie website! I’m trying to pick up a bunch of swimsuits for some trips coming up, so hopefully they fit! And will definitely be back when I need to do an undie haul! Thanks for looking out for the real women!!

Thank you for this post, and for shining a light on the nonsense that is Victoria’s Secret. I tried to years to fit my 32-Gs self into their bras and just always felt awful. Now that I’ve seen the light, I’m more comfortable and look SO much better in my clothes! I highly recommend anyone who needs to get fitted properly hit up the lingerie ladies at Nordstrom. They know their stuff and will get you in the right bra. You’ll leave feeling like a new woman!
